The Winter Deco Festival, along with the 150th commemoration of Napier becoming a borough, provided the perfect backdrop for a group of Napier student leaders to join Napier Mayor, Kirsten Wise, for High Tea in The Dome’s penthouse recently.
Between the chatting, chuckling, lamingtons and English Breakfast, students acknowledged that Art Deco, and indeed Napier’s 150th anniversary, was an opportunity to learn from those who have gone before, their values and resilience, as well as their wisdom and hope for the future.
“It is important for our capable, young leaders to learn from the past and use these lessons to continue to create the best little city in New Zealand,” Mayor Wise says.
“I have great faith in our future leaders, and I look forward to seeing our city’s evolution in years to come under their guardianship.”
Mayor Kirsten was joined by Deputy Mayor, Annette Brosnan, Napier City Councillors Ronda Chrystal, Greg Mawson and Richard McGrath along with Napier City Council Community Advisor, Tiffany McKenzie.
